Repeat Prescription Request
Prescribing is a complex process particularly on people who are on multiple medications. All patients who are on 5 or more medications should at all times maintain a written updated medication list ( which can be obtained from your pharmacist), and which should be brought to every consultation at the Practice, to KDoc, to all hospital outpatients, and to their pharmacy. This is an important aspect of patient safety.
From time-to time and as people become older it becomes increasingly appropriate to consider deprescribing or stopping long-term medications where it is safe to do so and reduces risk. As people become older their susceptibility to medication side-effects increases and also the likely benefits of certain types of medication ( e.g. cholesterol lowering agents (Statins)), becomes desirable. This may be discussed with your doctor, or your doctor may raise this.
Certain types of prescriptions are particularly complex including those for strong analgesics ( e.g. opioids or morphine), or sedative hypnotics (e.g. Valium like agents). These pose particular risk in terms of patient safety and strict prescribing guidelines will be adhered to, in particular it will not be possible to repeat such prescriptions where any concern exists in relation to the safety or security of medication supply. If you have concerns in this regard please raise them with your GP at the time of prescribing.
