Test results are primarily the responsibility of the doctor who orders the test in the first instance and the Patient upon whom the test is carried out. At The Bridge Medical Centre, the majority of test results are handled as follows:
In the majority of cases test results will return to the doctor who ordered the test who will scan the results and if there are significant abnormal findings will message the patient ( usually by SMS or sometimes by phone call).
We are not able to routinely advise regarding normal test results, due to reasons of practice workload.
We are not in any position whatsoever to follow up test results which have been ordered by any hospital doctors, which remain the responsibility of the Patient and the ordering doctor in the hospital clinic or any associated clinics.
When the test is being ordered in the first instance it is good for the doctor and Patient to understand how the test results will be communicated and frequently a review appointment is helpful particularly for important results where there is a high index of concern that the results may be abnormal. Discuss this with your doctor when the test is being considered and ordered in the first instance.
Copies of test results are the property of individual Patients and can be requested by the Patient through reception or directly from your doctor.
